Vice President, EMEA Territory Sales

Walter Dopplmair

Walter Dopplmair is responsible for the EMEA Territory Sales organization, which includes territory sales, channel and technical teams across all industries in Europe, Middle East and Africa – Autodesk’s largest business geography.

Prior to his current role, Walter led the EMEA mature Partner Management organization through an extensive period of business model transformation, moving from perpetual, on-premise solutions to a recurring subscription model. A bold innovator, he successfully executed an ambitious plan to restructure his organization, to align with the evolving demands of the business. He created a hub-based inside Partner Management organization and introduced Partner Consultants to drive accelerated channel growth.


Walter previously held several leadership roles within the Autodesk Channel organization in DACH, Eastern Europe, Italy and Iberia, including the management of the Manufacturing Channel in Central Europe, a region recognized as one of the world’s largest manufacturing markets.

Despite excelling in sales, Walter has long held a passion for learning and teaching Autodesk related skills. Soon after studying Mechanical Engineering in Austria he began to provide AutoCAD and operating system courses in an adult education institution. He later earned a degree in engineering economics from the University of Applied sciences in Hamburg and an MBA from the Johannes Kepler University in Linz.  In 1993 he joined Autodesk, putting his knowledge to good use as a Support Engineer and later as an Application Engineer for Data Management and GIS.

When his travel schedule permits, you’ll find Walter enjoying family time with his wife Antonia and their two daughters Riccarda and Franca, or pushing his limits on his mountain bike in the Austrian mountains near his home.

Karl Osti

Is press spokesperson for Autodesk GmbH and responsible for Autodesk’s manufacturing strategy. His responsibility also includes successful business model transformation, Go-To-Market Strategies while establishing new competitive advantage for the Autodesk Business Ecosystem.

He worked in Automotive, Aerospace, Industry Machinery, Food & Beverage as well as Plant and AEC industries. Starting from technical roles Osti became a business development executive helping medium sized companies to grow, go through digital transformation initiatives and supported DAX companies in Organizational Change realizing their version of Digitalization Initiatives while insuring business agility in global cultures.


Osti is an expert working on different operational levels from C-Level, to Mid-level Management to contributor to breaking down strategies, gain buy in, establish alignment, create the sense of urgency and get the team on the path towards a more rewarding future. Osti, electrician by education, holds a master in Business Informatics, a Master in Business Innovation and a MBA(Mergers & Acquisitions) and really enjoys everything related to Innovation.

Lynelle Cameron

Lynelle Cameron has over 20 years of experience helping large and small companies capitalize on market opportunities related to sustainability and climate change. Her career reflects a demonstrated track record leading large-scale transformative work spanning the nonprofit, public and private sectors.

Cameron is currently Vice President of Sustainability at Autodesk and CEO of the Autodesk Foundation. She leads a team transforming the design, manufacturing and construction industries to capitalize on the business opportunities of a low-carbon economy.


Through the Autodesk Foundation, she has invested over $15 million in entrepreneurs and innovators who are designing a sustainable world for billions of people. Under her leadership, Autodesk has won numerous awards for sustainability, climate leadership and philanthropy. Cameron is proving that companies can do well by doing good – in ways that strengthen brand reputation, recruit and retain the next generation of employees, and deliver financial results to shareholders.

A cultural anthropologist by training, Cameron has lived and worked in many parts of the world working at the intersection of conservation and economic development with WWF, TMI, and NOLS. Cameron brings her expertise in strategy, governance and management to the Boards of Innovators International, CEH, UC Berkeley CRB, Biomimicry 3.0, and Net Impact.

Lynelle was recently recognized as one of the Most Influential Women in Business by the SFBT. She has an MBA from UC Berkeley, MS from U of Michigan, and a BA from Middlebury College.

Holding a professional degree in Architecture, I have worked on multiple projects around the globe that range from the design of small residential typologies to the coordination of over 140.000 sqm mix-used developments. I have always looked for new and better ways on which technology and processes can help us achieve a more enhanced architectural experience on a shorter period of time.

Abdelmadjid Siab

Abdelmadjid Siab is a lover of Computer Aided Manufacturing and Numerically Controlled Machining. For him, the arrival of Fusion 360 on the African market will revolutionize the way of making things. Abdelmadjid has extensive experience in mould design and manufacturing in CAD with Solidworks and in CAM with Mastercam.


With his expertise he wants to develop the manufacturing industry in Africa as a specialist Application Engineer in manufacturing within Ideate Technologies, the Autodesk Value Added Distributor for the African continent.

Abdelmadjid Siab has a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene in Algiers, where he also lectures. He provides plastic injection mould design courses with Autodesk Inventor and Computer Aided Manufacturing with Fusion 360.

Adrian Patterson

With Engineering as a lifetime goal Adrian attended Wits university Studying Electrical Engineering before deciding to pursue Mechanical Engineering Part time. Through his years of experience as both a Support Specialist and R&D Draughtsman Adrian developed a passion for Autodesk Inventor, engineering workflows and data management.

Adrian is currently an Application Engineer and Certified Inventor Professional with Micrographics.

Ahmad is an AEC Technical Specialist at Autodesk for the Middle East and Africa. Based in Saudi Arabia, he has more than 10 years of experience in BIM, Geospatial & FM industries in various roles. He holds a B.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning.

Alber Verster

Alber Verster is a Senior GIS Specialist at Esri South Africa, where he has been working in the Patterns & Practices department for the past two and a half years. He is a University of Pretoria alumni, having studied Geoinformatics and graduated with a BSc (Hons) in 2010. His industry experience stretches from the Mining & Exploration industry to Land Surveying. His latest endeavours fall in the Digital Transformation sphere, where he works on realising the potential of IoT and integration with 3rd party systems.

Aldred Boyd

I am an Autodesk Application Engineer in the manufacturing space for a Gold Autodesk Reseller in South Africa called Micrographics. My role is to focus on support and training. My speciality is Inventor, Autodesk Vault and AutoCAD. Over the last 16 years in the Autodesk Channel I have also added AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Plant, the Fabrication and iLogic to my support and training portfolio.

Alex Horst

Alex’s extensive experience with 3ds Max dates right the way back to high school where he gave his first demo of 3D Studio R3 in 1993. Since then, Alex has worked with a huge amount of customers mainly in the games and design visualisation industry. Andre Minnie

Andre is a BIM evangelist and experienced Mechanical Engineer. He has worked both in South Africa and the UK for world class firms including WSP and BuroHappold, gaining experience on some of the world’s most impressive BIM Level 2 projects such the new Tottenham Hotspur Football Stadium.


Andre served on the CIBSE SW board as BIM Lead and helped to create an awareness of BIM in the South-West region of England through arranging BIM events and workshops. He completed a master’s degree in BIM at the University of the West of England and started his own BIM consultancy firm in 2018, Kode Digital Engineering Studio. He now helps clients to implement BIM as part of their workflows and works on projects as an Information Manager which improves BIM delivery through strategic planning and implementation.

He has developed workflows that efficiently captures and visualizes project data to improve quality and delivery methods. He is passionate about Technology within the Construction Industry and has a dream that design, construction and operations will become data driven processes, providing better, more intelligent ways in which we interact with the Built Environment.

Carl van Rooyen

Carl has been an Inventor user since 2007, when he started using it as a student. He gained a lot of exposure to the software early on in his student career while managing the CAD designs for his university’s Formula Student team. Who designed built and raced a formula style race car for a German competition. This in many respects jump started his Autodesk career.


However, his horizons have been broadened since joining Micrographics (Autodesk Gold Partner) as an Application Engineer at the end of 2011. His daily tasks include software installation, support, training, workflow enhancement and consulting. Servicing mainly the manufacturing sector ranging from automated industrial machinery to health care equipment.

His main interest lies in the manufacturing field but enjoys programming and using creative visual software like Sketchbook and VRed.


Vice President for Positioning and Services, Ideate Technologies

Christopher John Byren

Christopher John Byren is currently Vice President for Positioning and Services at Ideate Technologies, the sole African authorised distributor of Autodesk Software.

Prior, as a consultant for Esri South Africa, Mr. Byren was taking Esri solutions such as ArcGIS for Local Authorities to market for Esri South Africa, the primary geospatial industry software provider in Southern Africa. From March 2013 until December 2016, Mr. Byren was Regional Director/ Vice President for Africa at Leica Geosystems, a Division of Hexagon, a global provider of information technology solutions.


Mr. Byren and his team at Leica Geosystems, based out of France and South Africa, in a virtual, matrix organisation, managed the African market via direct sales and Distribution Partners. He led the African team, liaised with the EMEA GSR (Global Sales Region) management in the UK and Product Management in Switzerland with full strategic and P&L responsibility. New channels to market via appointing additional Distribution Partners were developed and the role spanned multiple product and industry verticals such as Mining, Construction, Geosystems and Geospatial.

Prior, from 2012 until 2013, Mr. Byren was Sales Manager at Swedesurvey, the overseas agency of Lantmäteriet, the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority, engaged in land administration and positioning intelligence projects in Africa.

From 2001 until 2012 he was the Esri South Africa Regional Manager for KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. Mr. Byren holds an MBA from Henley Business School and is a registered Professional Geo-Information Science Practitioner (PrGIScP) with the SAGC (South African Geomatics Council).

Claire is the founding Director of BiomimicrySA and a co-founder of the Biomimicry for Africa Foundation. Dario Mariuzzi

David Ngandu

David Ngandu is the technical Director and Applications Engineer for Advanced Design Colleges (Educational) and Advanced Design Systems (Corporate) Zimbabwe. He has been with Autodesk for 18 years now.

David has been sitting and passing AutoCAD and Inventor professional exams since 2004 to date and is a certified ATC instructor. Over the years, he has worked both for Autodesk ATCs and in the corporate sector mainly mining houses.


The experience gained through this combination of work gave him the confidence to start own company which focuses on Autodesk product knowledge and industrial applications. His company is both a Resseler and ATC/AAP. His job is to manage training and implementation of Autodesk products both in educational and corporate sectors.He is very proficient in conducting training on the following products:-AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor, revit architecture & structure and AutoCAD Plant.

He has implemented the said software packages to over hundred corporates in countries that include South Africa, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. He Solely introduced Autodesk industry specific products to Zimbabwe and has set up drawing offices of various companies back dating as early as 2000. David was awarded as the Africa Technical Consultant of the year in 2007. Award was presented to him by the then Autodesk CEO:-Carol Bartz.

Through his journey with Autodesk David has signed memorandums of understanding with the Ministry of Education in Zimbabwe to include Autodesk educational software in the curriculum. In the 2017 AU Cape Town Conference, David facilitated that 17 heads of polytechnics in Zimbabwe attend the conference together with the Educational Director from the Ministry of Education. This year David will be attending AU 2018 Johannesburg in company of 42 delegation from Zimbabwe educational principals.

Drishan Naidoo

Mr Drishan Naidoo is an Electronics & Electrical Design Technician at CKR Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd. With his background in manufacturing, he is able to design workable solutions in REVIT which can be efficiently implemented on building projects. His unique design philosophy approach has resulted in many successful projects in South African and Africa. These projects include BCX Head Office Pretoria, Respublica Student Accommodation Pretoria, Oceans Umhlanga, Baia Mall Maputo and Standard Chartered Bank Ghana. Evelio de Abreu

Evelio de Abreu is a Regional Executive at Construction Computer Software (CCS). Within this role, he is responsible for managing the Candy technical team, the business development managers, and the technical support manager across South Africa, as well as the Africa and Far East regions. The construction industry sectors his team is responsible for include Civils, Building, Residential and Multi-disciplinary projects.

Evelio started his career as a Quantity Surveyor after completing his quantity surveyor degree at the Tshwane University of Technology in 1998. After starting his career at a professional QS office, Evelio moved to Group 5 where he was a Quantity Surveyor for 5 years.


In 2003, he saw the opportunity to fuse his two passions “construction and software” and joined CCS as a technical consultant where he started supporting, training, implementing and consulting on the Candy Estimating, Planning and Project Control system. In 2011, Evelio was promoted to technical manager, before being promoted to regional executive in 2016.

In his personal time, Evelio is a father of two boys and lives with his partner and her three children, making for a big and busy household. He enjoys restoring Italian classic cars and plays squash, tennis and golf.

Frédéric Sinfort

Frédéric is a Solution Engineer at Autodesk focused on the French country.

He started his career as an ANSYS simulation Engineer.Then, he continued as an Ansys Mechanical and Structural Application Engineer into the Robobat Company. He joined Autodesk in 2008 as an Architecture Engineering and Construction Application Engineer promoting the whole BIM (Building Information Modeling) solution.


In 2010, he moved into the Autodesk Manufacturing Division as a Solution Engineer. Today, Frédéric is really happy to promote the Autodesk Future of Making Things vision from Autodesk.

With his Manufacturing, Simulation and Architecture Engineering & Construction skills, Frédéric has the right industry knowledge to drive customers to the good solutions, particularly regarding the Industry of the future.

Gary Mansfield

With over 10 years’ experience implementing and training Autodesk design solutions to Architects and Engineers. By combining his industry and software knowledge he manages his own consulting company, BeyondCAD, for 3 years in which he assisted architects and engineers to optimise workflows locally and still assists clients internationally.

With his extensive model integration experience, he has collaborated with Architects and MEP consultants on BIM projects which varies from commercial, educational, residential and healthcare.


Gary has joined CKR to make a difference in the industry by using BIM methodologies. He established the first BIM department for the group, with the aim of building its BIM capabilities to offer additional value-added services to their clients.

Gary provides Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks leadership to the drawing office and ensures that project deliverables are handed off accurately and on time, as well as supporting large project teams in BIM protocols and delivery.

Gary helps make the internal and external processes more efficient through the active use of established tools and innovative methods.

Geoffrey Harty

Geoffrey Harty has been working with Autodesk products for 11 years (primarily Inventor, AutoCAD and Vault). He started in the sheet metal industry on Inventor 11 and has progressed to the Lead Designer for Petrichor Concepts – a system integration and automation-focused company – where Vault Professional was implemented successfully with international replication. He is passionate about automation, quality control and data management.

Jamie Gwilliam

Jamie Gwilliam

With over 18yrs of high-end Design and Visualisation experience, Jamie now leads the AEC strategy and execution for AMD professional graphics. Prior to joining AMD, Jamie worked for Autodesk for over 11 years as a Product Specialist and later as a Territory Manager. Well known within the industry, Jamie focused on sharing his extensive knowledge and best-practices to improve the visualisation industry. Now Jamie spends his time ensuring that the latest AMD offerings surpass customers expectations in today’s modern multi-tasking workflows, whilst exploring possible future trends.

Janine Strachan

Janine specializes in identifying best practices and methodologies for integrating BIM into everyday workflows. She develops and oversees the BIM/Revit Workflows and Standards at DSA Architects. Her role as BIM Manager includes continuous staff development, user and project-based support, maintaining the DSA Revit template and family libraries and overseeing the implementation of BIM workflows on projects.


Janine completed her BTech Architectural Technology at Tshwane University of Technology in 2011. She also holds a Diploma in Interior Design from the Interior Design Institute.

Janine started her career in an architectural office as an assistant architectural technologist in 2012, working on high end residential developments. She then transitioned into a position as graphic designer at Modena Design Centres in 2015. After two months at Modena, Janine joined the AEC team as an Applications Engineer. In 2016 she was outsourced to DSA Architects as a BIM Consultant, becoming a full-time employee the next year.

Skilled in emerging software/application options forming the future of BIM, Janine is a proven leader in the best practices and methodology for integrating technology into everyday workflows for the AEC industry.

Starting with (3D) coordination to generating (4D) schedules and (5D) quantities from models, Janine has delved deep into the BIM process. In addition, she’s had the opportunity to share this knowledge with audiences and publications across South Africa as a speaker at the 3rd Building Information Modelling in Africa Conference 2018. Janine spoke about “Learning on the job – BIM is the way, but how?”, a presentation which resonated with delegates. Janine’s article, “Learning BIM on the job”, was published in the June 2018 issue of PositionIT Magazine.

Jessica Baisley

Jessica Baisley completed her MArch(Prof) from the University of Pretoria (Professional Master’s in Architecture) in 2008. She started working with Revit during her practical year in 2005. She joined Modena Design Centres in 2009 as an Autodesk Applications Engineer specializing in Revit.


Her expertise expanded to include Revit MEP, Navisworks, as well as the BIM 360 Portfolio of products. Her role as an Autodesk Applications Engineer focusing on training and support evolved with the industry to the role of a BIM Consultant to several of South Africa’s top architectural and engineering firms whom she assisted with BIM protocol development and customized BIM training.

With her focus on workflow efficiency, her approach to BIM has always been Real World Relevance, bringing together the Software functionalities and construction project demands. She is currently working Under the role of a BIM co-ordination & Development for Capex Projects, a well-known Project Management Firm best known for their role as Project Managers on several of the new buildings in Sandton most notably the Sasol building.

Her goal is to integrate BIM fully into the culture of building projects from design through to construction and ultimately on to the whole life cycle of buildings.

Jo-Ann Hogan

Born in 1992 in Krugersdorp, South Africa, Jo-Ann Hogan forms part of the millennial society. She lives up to her generation by being nomadic, tech-savvy, connected and a master of multi-tasking.

She is a Certified Professional in the following software: Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, AutoCAD and Inventor.

Karabo Mokaba is a Professional Architect and registered member of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession. He was born in Johannesburg, Soweto in 1985. As an undergraduate at the University of Johannesburg, Karabo holds numerous awards of excellence including the South African Institute of Steel Construction Prize-SAISC for Excellent work based on steel Construction & Concrete and the Cement Institute Award for Joint Best 4th Year Student in Construction & Detailing.


In 2011, Karabo was awarded a National Research Foundation ‘NRF’ scholarship and graduated with a Masters of Architectural Technology (Prof) degree in March 2013. His thesis, titled I2=Intermodal Interchange Information Exchange was awarded the Corobik Architectural Student of the Year award for the best use in masonry detailing.

Mark King

Mark is the BIM Solutions Manager for Leica Geosystems Emerging EMEA & Asia and has worked all around the globe advising and collaborating with architecture, engineering and construction companies on adopting digital construction workflows in line with BIM.


With almost 10 years of experience in using and implementing the latest cutting-edge laser scanning, mobile mapping and construction layout technology in a variety of projects. He has previously managed a BIM department within a UK survey, and developed processes and procedures for capturing, generating and validating 3D digital information.

Mitchell is a UKZN Architectural graduate from Durban South Africa, looking to bring diversity, leadership and problem-solving skills to his profession.

He worked as a swim coach, developing swimming skills for children from the age of 3-8 and 14-20, which involved communicating with parents and updating them with information on how their children were improving and advancing. This developed his communication skills.


When joining Modena Design Centre’s, Mitchell learnt how to provide ongoing support for existing clients, by creating templates & families, assisting on-site and conducting training courses for the Revit software package. He is an Autodesk Certified Revit Professional and Instructor which he completed through Modena Design Centre’s Cape Town.

He is skilled in Autodesk Revit as well as Twinmotion, has a good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Lumion, is semi-familiar with Adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw and is efficient in the Microsoft Office suite.

Mohammad Abou Assali

Mohammad Abou Assali has a Bachelor Degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering as well as a Minor Degree in Information Technology from the American University of Beirut (AUB).

He has a Diploma in Supply Chain Management (SCM) from the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).


Before joining Autodesk Mohammad worked in the civil construction industry where he started his experience as an Assistant in the Soil & Mechanics Laboratory at AUB then as a Civil Site Engineer, Contracts Engineer, and finally as Senior Contracts Engineer managing project teams consisting of Quantity Surveyors, Cost & Budget Control, and Procurement Engineers.

He worked in several mega infrastructure projects in Qatar among which is the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) and Lusail Expressway. Currently, he is the Civil Infrastructure Technical Specialist of Autodesk based in the Dubai office and covering the Middle East and Africa.

Neil Brooker

Neil Brooker is Technical Specialist Manager for the EMEA Emerging Technical Specialist team in Middle East, Turkey and Africa. Neil obtained a BA (Hons) in Geography and went on to obtain MSc in Land Resource Management. He spent 8 years working as a research officer in Scotland, researching land use and GIS analytics.


He joined Autodesk in November 1999 as an Application Engineer for the GIS group. He transitioned into Infrastructure technical sales and became a manager in 2006. He was promoted to Technical Specialists Manager for the Infrastructure team in Northern Europe in 2009 before being appointed as Technical Specialists Manager for the AEC team in Northern Europe in 2011.

Neil then moved to the role of Technical Specialists Manager AEC/ENI in EMEA and for the Emerging Markets technical team in 2012, moving permanently to Dubai in 2014. He currently manages a team of 7 Technical Specialists in Istanbul, Riyadh and Dubai.

Patrick Addington

Mr. Patrick Eric Addington is an Electrical Design Technician at CKR Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd. For over 10 years, he has worked in the consulting engineering industry, where he has contributed to the successful design of several iconic buildings in the South African and greater African skyline.


Together with the engineering team at CKR Consulting Engineers, he formed part of major projects such as 90 Road, Sandton, Old Mutual Head Office Sandton, Werksmans Sandton, 2 Pybus Road Sandton and Radisson Blu Residences in Maputo.

He studied Draughting at the Academy of Advanced Technology and holds a diploma in General Draughting. In the last 10 years he has built his knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD being able to maintain drawing standards as well as implement standards on both platforms.

Beyond his REVIT contributions, Patrick enjoys spending his time playing PC games, trail running and photography. He has recently found interest in Dynamo Scripting which he hopes to use as part of his REVIT skill set.

Shuaib Yunos is a young and ambitious professional, having a great interest in design, infrastructure & technology. Sorin Bularca

Sorin is Technical Sales Specialist at Autodesk and his main areas of expertise are in Advance Steel, Revit, Navisworks, Dynamo, AutoCAD and the BIM360 family. He recently joined the Dubai office from the Autodesk APAC team and was formerly based in Singapore where he was a Technical Consultant specializing in Connected BIM and Cloud Collaboration for AEC Industry.


Before joining Autodesk, Sorin was Technical Manager at Graitec for the APAC region for Autodesk Advance Steel. As a part of this role, he provided technical support, training, localization and drawing styles customization for this product.

Prior to his consulting career path and with a cumulative international experience of over 13 years in the BIM sector, he has been working for projects such as stadiums, shopping malls, residential and industrial buildings. This hands-on experience has resulted in a range of technical skills varying from multi-disciplinary BIM modelling and spatial coordination to libraries customization, 4D simulations and FM integration.

Sorin is also a visual programming enthusiast and has developed automation scripts using Dynamo for Revit that have helped customers reduce up to 50% time spent on their design process.

Stephanie Lee

Stephanie is a civil draughtsman and skilled technician at Jones & Wagener, a specialist firm of consulting engineers and scientists based in South Africa. She has been in the civil industry for 8 years, working predominantly with Autodesk’s AutoCAD Civil 3D in the field of waste and tailings.


Majority of projects being hazardous waste, ash disposal and tailings storage facilities – from conceptual to detail design then to construction. Stephanie also presents inhouse training of various Autodesk products such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks, Recap and Infraworks.

Sydney Lefifi

Sydney celebrates and embraces matters of beauty and coordinates all design responsibilities within the LEMEG Group. He studied architecture at Tshwane University of Technology, specialising in design and attained his Masters Degree in the same field. In 2010 he received a Diploma in Italy at the Marmomacc Stone Academy.

In 2008 Sydney became a partner in LEMEG and shared design and management responsibilities. He has since matured into the partnership and helped to transform the practice into a major player in the industry.


Recent projects include the on-going Polokwane City Centre urban renewal project, the development of the University of Venda and University of Mpumalanga, which includes master-planning and several new faculty buildings. He has also recently participated in the design competition for the new university for the Northern Cape in South Africa as well as the ThyssenKrupp Elevator competition in Dubai in 2008.

In 2011, having served two years on the management committee of the Limpopo Institute for Architecture, Sydney was elected President of the same Institute and accomplished a successful two-year term. During the two years, the Institute implemented a new brand and placed emphasis on the development of youth by way of outreach programmes aimed at schools.

Sydney served on the South African Institute of Architects Transformation Committee. During the final two years at the University, 2003 and 2004, Sydney was appointed as part time lecturer in the department of Architecture and covered the design and presentation modules.

Tiaan Franken

Tiaan started working in the animation and visual effects industry in 2004. Since then he has gained tons of experience in pipeline development as a Technical Director. Due to his extensive motion capture, dynamic and crowd simulation and complex character rigging experience give him a very specific insight into the needs of various artists across the 3d animation and visual effects field. In 2016, after working for various post houses, Tiaan joined Chocolate Tribe, the high-end VFX and Animation studio, based in Johannesburg, as their Executive Technical Director. Clients include Joe Public, JWT, Draft FCB, King James II, Chicken Licken, Volkswagen, Telkom, Glassworks, The Mill, Nexus Studios and BBC. In a short span of time, the studio has worked on many award winning projects, attracting accolades such as Loeries Gold Craft, Gold at the Ciclope Awards in Berlin and Cannes Lion.

Tony Cornwall

Tony Cornwall is a Technical Lead at Construction Computer Software (CCS). He joined the team in 2002 and since then has been heavily involved in the Candy product from both a management and development perspective.

Tony’s background is as a Quantity Surveyor. He graduated from University of Johannesburg with degree in Quantity Surveying and then spent five years at Group 5, thanks to a bursary offered to him by the company. He started using Candy whilst he was with Group 5 before then joining CCS as a Candy consultant, helping to implement and deploy Candy solutions to its clients as well as train CCS staff on Candy.


In 2005, Tony moved into a management role where he was responsible for overseeing and assisting international markets, namely, Dubai, India, Australia and New Zealand. In 2008, when CCS bought BuildSmart, Tony joined the BuildSmart team as a developer. It was at this point, his two passions converged; construction and software development. Within his role in the BuildSmart team, Tony helped develop the accounting integration with Candy, as well as internal licensing systems.

As of 2010, Tony has been based with the CCS team in Cape Town working to develop the QTO package which would link the qualities to Candy. As such, his role includes liaising with the Business analysis teams, the UX teams, and in some instances technical support.

Although his background is in Quantity Surveying, Tony has been involved in development for 15yrs and has post-graduate diploma in Software Engineering. On the solutions side of the business, his role is as the subject matter expert on Quantity Take-Off (QTO).

As part of the steering committee at CCS for C5, a cloud-based construction product for estimating and quantity take-off, he is constantly looking out for concepts, ideas and innovations in the tech industry that may suit the CCS business and the construction industry, a good example of this is BIM.

Tony considers one of his career highlights to be successfully navigating the transition from construction to software development: and ultimately being part of a team that built a product containing the requirements of QTO and successfully integrating with Candy.

In his personal life, Tony is a very happily married father of two, a son (8), and daughter (4). He is a keen cyclist and mountain biker who enjoys living in Cape Town and exploring the Cape and its mountains with his family.

Vaughan Harris

Vaughan, aka ‘The Baron of BIM’ has a wealth of history working in the think tanks and leadership development arena within the construction industry. His strong business development skills, succession planning and training development has successfully positioned him as Chair of Board of Directors for the BIM Institute for Africa and sits on the advisory board for the BIM for Owners & Developers Global Executive Program.


Vaughan has been involved in various sectors of the construction industry locally and internationally since graduating as a Quantity Surveyor in 1994. His 14 years of quantity surveying with one of South Africa’s largest construction companies, Grinaker-lta gave him the opportunity to work with various professional teams on projects.

In 2000, he started specialising in information management systems to better coordinate the construction processes on projects and as a result worked in Australia on various transport and defence projects. His seven years with one of Africa’s largest construction software development companies, gave him the opportunity in working with various software applications and systems used within the industry.

Vaughan has lectured at the Department of Construction and Economics Management at the University of Cape Town, transferring knowledge learnt on new generation technology for the construction industry. In addition to his valuable role within the construction industry in South Africa, he has also recently received an award for the top 30 BIM Blogs on the internet.

Vaughan, successfully established the BIM Training Academy Africa in 2017 and has recently steered the Ethiopian government BIM implementation program.

Vijay Raina

Vijay Raina is a Technical Specialist for AEC at Autodesk. Vijay has over15 years of AEC industry experience working in India, Middle East and South East Asia, Vijay joins in Dubai from the Autodesk Singapore office where he spent over 4 years as AEC technical specialist. He is a Mechanical Engineer with Extensive hands-on experience and was working as BIM Manager-MEP for Tilke in Bahrain prior to joining Autodesk.

Vincent Fredon

Vincent Fredon is an Autodesk Technical Sales Specialist in AEC for South Europe. He is an Infrastructure specialist working with all the Autodesk infra solutions and mainly AutoCAD Civil 3D, InfraWorks 360 and Navisworks. He is based in Paris. Vincent has worked 13 years for Engineering companies in the Infrastructure domain.


He then moved to an Autodesk VAR GraphLand where he has been Trainer and Consultant for various enterprises and projects road, rail, energy… on different software and BIM processes implementation. During the last few years, he has developed a strong expertise in meeting the needs of French civil companies.
